Myths about studying abroad
When deciding to seek education
in places other than your own country, some beliefs may arise in line to myths
and misconceptions about the place you want to visit. In this article, we will
look at the common myths that are there and the facts. Let us demystify the
study abroad phenomena.
Myth 1: Studying abroad is all fun and games
FACT: This has to be one of the biggest disillusions out there. T
is up there with studying abroad is expensive. Studying in a foreign country
does not give you a license to skip classes and school work. In fact, most
universities especially those in the west are very serious about class
attendance. Remember, while studying, you are only as good as your visa. Should
you default on class work, some universities will laisse with your embassy and
the immigration department and you might actually get deported. Not only that,
failure to perform well may actually get you discontinued and deported. So yes,
education abroad is actually very serious.
Myth 2: Scholarships are hardly available
FACT: As the majority would say right now, “Wewe uliskia
wapi?”(Where did you hear that from?). Scholarships are available. Not all the
time and not in all universities but they are available. As I write this, INTI
University is offering a 40% scholarship. This is usually the most common type
of scholarships offered and these are the type you are most likely to get.
Institutions usually offer a discount on the school fees to ease the burden on
the students. A good agency can very much help you negotiate for a discount on
your fees, making your study even more cheaper.
Myth 3: I am too young to study abroad
FACT: Gone are the days when education was thought to be only for
young people. This is because nowadays there are solutions to ensure even more
mature adults can pursue education and continue developing in their fields.
Schools also offer these solutions to try and avoid having too big of an age
gap in class rooms that would otherwise make older people feel uncomfortable.
And if all this still does not sound like is for you, just remember, there are
online classes available, to ensure you continue learning and making the best out
of your situation. Not that bad now, is it?
Myth 4: Europe is the only destination for studying abroad
FACT: Here is another myth that really limits possibilities. While
it is true that Europe is a good study destination, it is not the best neither
is it the only one. For instance, one can study in Africa, University of
Johannesburg is a good study destination, so is the United Kingdom. Did you
know there are actually very good and cheap study destinations like Malaysia
such as INTI University? See where I am going with this? The point is, there are other options across
the world from the US to Canada all the way to Russia and Germany. All you need
to do to get started on a country that suits your preference is having a good
agent or agency that understands the workings of these countries and schools
involved. A good idea is Educare International.
Myth 5: Some employers do not value international education
FACT: We all know this one is very false. Getting an education from
a well ranked university and accompanied by a well ranked degree, places you in
a better position to compete for jobs and other opportunities. Employers are
always looking for people who can speak multiple languages and those who can
work in a cross cultural environment. Of course simply mentioning your overseas
education will not guarantee you a selection, so you need to show how your
experience has prepared you for the role you are about to undertake.
My advice would be for you to get
your information form a legitimate source. Talk to an agency that understands
the world of university education and the requirements for studying abroad. Do
not seek shady agents that may mean you harm and lead you to lose a lot of your
money. A good agent should be approved by universities and their information
widely available to the public. Try Educare International today! They have a
wide variety of services from visa application, university application and
course counselling. This is just but a few of what they offer. Thank me later!
